Please note that I am no longer involved with cricket development as I have switched sports codes. I now assist with the coaching and development of kids in athletics at Itheko Sports Athletics Club.
I am contactable at kidsathletics@itheko.org and for an excellent visual tour you can also visit our Kids Athletics blog site at www.kidzathletics.blogspot.com

Some cricketing terms:
Nelson
“Nelson” reveals much about the English sea Lord and a town in Lancashire of the same name.
However, to English batsmen, Nelson means a score of 111 and is the unluckiest number in the game. The superstitious custom is to remove one or both feet from the ground until the score has moved on.
Why 111? The term was invented in the belief that Lord Nelson was unlucky enough to have had only one eye, one arm and one leg. Nelson wasn’t quite this unfortunate as he actually had two legs, but the cricket term has survived all attempts by historians to correct it.
Retired international cricket umpire David Shepherd kept one leg off the ground by hopping from one foot to the other when the scored reached "Nelson".
Doosra:
This bowling delivery is a variation of the off spinner, developed by the Pakistan test player Saqlain Mushtaq. Conventional off spin is imparted by the fingers of a right handed bowler with the palm facing the batsman, and spins from a right handed batsman’s off side to leg side.
The Doosra employs the same finger spin, but is delivered with the back of the hand facing the batsman and spins from leg to off. “Doosra” is from the Urdu or Hindi for “other” or “second”.
Run Out or Not?
The answer to the tricky question on run outs is that only one batsman can be “run out” at one time. The umpires must apply Law 29 to decide which batsman has to go.
However, in a match between England and the West Indies, a throw from Michael Holding of the West Indies hit one set of wickets before going on to break the other set. Both batsmen were out of their ground, but the umpires were too confused to dismiss either of them.

Wednesday, March 9, 2011
Fixture: 26 March 2011
Host: United CC
Venue: Green Point Track
Directions to the field:
The Green Point Track is situated next to the new Cape Town Stadium.
As announced earlier, Friday 24 March 2011 is the last day that I will be in attendance for the club. I have also earlier indicated that I will in all likelihood stay involved in the mini cricket program but will sought an alternative structure / club from where to continue to develop the program. I have to the contrary chosen to move away from cricket completely as my current sport involvement does not allow me the time to do so.
My involvement with the development structures over the years has always been challenging but the successes and many acquaintances and friends that I have made will remain a positive part of my life forever.
I wish to emphasise again that Primrose Mini Cricket structure is in an extremely healthy state and should be a pleasure for anyone accepting the challenge to manage and convene the structure. I appeal to the parents and managers to accept the challenge and not let this structure disintegrate.
I wish everyone, especially our young cricketers, of whom I have only the fondest of memories, every cricketing success and every success in all their future endeavours.
Shukran / Thank you

Important Announcements
Below are the announcements made at the practice on Friday 25 February 2011.
Thanks & appreciation:
It must be said that one can be extremely pleased with the development of the Primrose Mini Cricket Program. Our children / players are well disciplined and there seems to be very good adherence to the standards that management are striving for. This is evident in our attendances and punctuality at practice sessions and matches and the general vibe and sense of belonging to, and within the structure.
Criteria for selection and player evaluation:We have once again experienced phenomenal growth within the mini cricket structure. This is natuarally a good thing but also presents with its challenges.
How do we accommodate everyone?
Within the Beginner and Intermediate groups its not such a huge challenge, but amongst the advanced boys where the games are more competitive, it calls for a criteria for selection.
Parents of the Advanced Team players met earlier in February and formulated the following criteria:
i) Attendance and punctuality at practice
Registration forms:
